DjMr262, KUSD students kick off charity week with free gas

Every parent wants their child to grow into a good, kind adult who positively impacts the world.

The 16th annual DJMr.262’s Charity Week kicked off Monday, with each day featuring a different charity event culminating with a bowling fundraiser event Saturday and community dinner Sunday.

Carey Norris, otherwise known as DJMr.262, said the week of charity is designed to help bring the community together and show student volunteers a wide variety of community work they could get involved in when they’re older.

“Every day there’s something different, so the kids can learn,” Norris said.

‘Our mission is to assist and empower individuals with everyday responsibilities by creating long lasting solutions to strengthen our community,” he said. “Our vision is to use the power of help to prepare and create opportunities now and for the future of all.”

This year’s week of charity work began Monday, with a free gas and food giveaway at two local gas stations. Norris said students pumped free gas into the tanks of between 40-50 vehicles. Bradford High School students volunteered at the Kwik Trip across from the school. Indian Trail High School and Academy students jumped gas at a station at the corner of 52nd Street and Green Bay Road.

“It went very well,” Norris said afterward. “The customers were surprised and pleased to interact with the students. Some even went and got donuts and brought them back to give them to the students.”

Throughout the week, DJ Mr. 262 and the students will visit sites in the community to volunteer and give back to the community. Additional sites include:

Tuesday: Azalea Place assisted living facility, 8322 14th Ave.

Wednesday: Minnie’s Little Angels child care center, 2037 22nd Ave.

Thursday: HALO luncheon in Racine, 2000 DeKoven Ave.

Friday: Brass Community School, 6300 15th Ave., and the Shalom Center, 4314 39th Ave.

On Saturday, Nov. 23, there will be a bowling fundraiser. All lanes for the event have been sold, but the public is invited to enter raffles and for auction of items.

Sunday will feature a free community dinner at the Shalom Center, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The public is invited.

Norris said he organizes the annual event in conjunction with the Linda Faye Foundation because it’s something he wholeheartedly believes in.

“This is my way of living,” he said of the charity effort. “My main purpose is to help others (and to help them) help others.”
