Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra  is proud to announce that its Student Wellbeing Team has been awarded the prestigious Amber Flag by Pieta, recognising the school’s exceptional commitment to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing across the entire school community.

The Amber Flag initiative recognises schools that go above and beyond in creating a healthy, inclusive, and supportive environment for students and staff alike. Through the dedication and collaboration of the Student Wellbeing Team, SPSL has implemented a series of impactful initiatives, activities, and campaigns throughout the school year that foster emotional resilience, encourage open conversations around mental health, and build a culture of care and connection.

Wellbeing co-ordinator, Niamh Dwyer said: “We are incredibly proud of our students and staff who worked tirelessly to earn this recognition. The Amber Flag is not just a symbol – it reflects our ongoing commitment to making mental health and wellbeing a visible, valued part of our school culture.”

Over the past year, the Student Wellbeing Team has spearheaded a range of initiatives, including wellbeing week, monthly wellbeing priorities, a focus on wellbeing for exam students, physical activities and events to build connections among students.

They also raised €518 for Jigsaw Kerry as part of their Wellbeing Week and these efforts have been instrumental in promoting open conversations about mental health and encouraging the whole school community to prioritise their wellbeing.

The Amber Flag is an initiative by Pieta, a national charity that provides free therapeutic services to people in suicidal distress, those engaging in self-harm, and those bereaved by suicide.

The programme encourages schools, clubs, and groups to promote mental wellbeing and reduce stigma through a structured framework of goals and activities.
